Our food supply is the largest contributor of greenhouse gases in percentage terms of all sectors. Moreover, the industrial approach to producing our food exhausts the soil. To compensate that, huge amounts of fertilizers are added. In turn, this causes destruction of eco systems and poisons land and water. Same for the herbicides and pesticides that are used. This also kills off many animal species, including urgently needed pollinators.

In addition, the consumption of fresh water for agriculture and especially animal industries is huge. Because of that, an increasing number of regions worldwide risk becoming completely unsuitable for growing food due to drought. This, but also huge increases in rainfall in other regions and/or other seasons, make us vulnerable to crop failures.

And then the food is still far from reaching your plate. Most of us know that a shocking 30% of the food produced worldwide does not end up in people's stomachs. All the while 1 in 9 people go hungry every day….

So your food has a big impact on your ecological footprint...

The first part of this food triptych is a more general page about the important role of food in our ecological footprint. In the second part, I gave you tips and considerations to reduce your footprint through healthy eating habbits. In this third and last part, some considerations on the processing of food.

ALL WE NEED IS LESS CONSUMING

Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on your actions to support the wellbeing of the earth and everything that lives on it, on what humanity loses when many of us continue on the destructive path of ever more greed and consuming, on how you can survive in this rapidly changing world…
