A bright white light? Eternal darkness?

It is my conviction that after our death our spirit, our soul, or call it our energy, travels to its origin somewhere in the universe. Once arrived, our energy is reunited with the energy from which everything around us once originated.

Every person has a personal purpose in her or his life. But isn't the ultimate purpose of all life, that you enrich the community in which you live with your gifts during life, and that after the body dies, you enrich the energy you have been privileged to use in your life with the wisdom you have amassed?

As we know from the beautiful and fascinating photographs taken by the Hubble and Webb telescopes, the energy visible to us in the universe consists of light from countless stars. This light illuminates enormous gas nebulae in many fascinating colors. So this is how I like to see myself. As a very small colored particle of energy. After leaving this physical existence, this particle returns to such an infinitely large, multicolored cloud of light, gas and dust.

The way there is an enchanting journey through space. Alternating between silent darkness and clouds full of light, color and tranquilizing sounds. After that long, fascinating journey, we arrive at our designated spot in that infinite space.

The project

In the project Nebulae I visualized that journey.  It started as a series of 9 abstract surrealistic photographic artworks, made by transforming nine of my abstract or impressionistic photographs of sunsets over the North Sea along the coast of the Thy region, North Jutland, Denmark.

Some time later, I made a second series. This artwork Nebulae (15) is the last artwork in that second series.

'Nebulae (15)' comes in a Limited Edition of 4 per size group, signed and with a certificate of authenticity. But of course, it is also available as Open Edition print, without signature and not numbered. Prices starting at €50 / US$55.
