Suppose an oak tree longs to become a birch. Then that is possible only if a single, individual oak cell is able and willing to become a birch cell. Then, after that change is accepted and then copied by the surrounding cells, eventually the whole tree will change. That's what I call organic change.

Circular economy

Suppose a government of a country decides to focus no longer on economic growth but on human and natural well-being. They want to abolish capitalism and replace it with a new, "circular economy" with the goal of getting the ecological footprint smaller than 1 earth as soon as possible.
How would that plan be received domestically, by people and businesses?

Focus on well-being

Suppose that the heads of government of an alliance of countries, say the EU, agree and decide to focus no longer on growth but on the well-being of people and nature. They want to abolish capitalism and replace it with a new, "circular economy" with the goal of getting the ecological footprint smaller than 1 earth as soon as possible.
How would that plan be received domestically, by people and businesses?

Suppose the leaders of the strongest countries in the world, for example the most powerful and wealthiest 20, …
Well, you get the idea.

Do you read above a realistic, potentially successful way to bring about a major change in our economic system? A systemic change that will ensure that we are prevented from going to a disastrous temperature rise this very century, making large parts of the earth unlivable?

Our society and the oak tree

Our society works no differently, with the major difference being that humanity desperately needs change. While neither the oak tree nor the oak cell has a reason to want or need change.

Many people who preach Degrowth, System Change and Regeneration are unfortunately unwilling or unable to appreciate this mechanism.

But it is a law of nature, a law that says only organic change is borne by those involved, and therefore successful.

Where one sets a goal, the other provides the actual change. Cooperation between the two could ensure optimal results. But the desire to change must come from deep inside that individual. And should not be something contrived by what the mind tells us to do. That mostly is driven by conditioning, fears, greed, jealousy...

Signs of change

I see no signs that the system change supporters are embracing the organic change power of the individual and work together with it to realise their dreams and ambitions. Even worse, individual change is regularly trivialised and belittled.

We must realize that no system has change power. The power comes from the individuals in the system. From a drive to want to change, initiated by a few of them with vision, a few who can inspire and initiate from an Inner Knowing and by being an example.

ALL WE NEED IS LESS CONSUMING

Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke. Thus to think about your actions to support the wellbeing of the earth and everything that lives on it. And on what humanity loses when many of us continue on the destructive path of ever more greed and consuming. And please, reflect on how you can survive in this rapidly changing world…
