The river rushes forth

The Netherlands. My country of birth, the country where I have lived almost all my life.
A flat landscape with winding rivers and beautiful villages.
Country roads between fields, that are marked by endless rows of bushes and trees.
Polders that are sometimes lower than sea level. Rivers and canals that, if you fly like a bird, seem to divide the land in thousands of islands.
The dying sun
colors the sky with a poem
to welcome the night
A quiet winter evening in a swampy area. The sun sets behind the trees and colors the sky as if it was on fire. A poem to welcome the night.

For a brief moment, the last rays of the sun dazzle you and take you to a silent, white night…

The low tide
reveal what was hidden
introspection
An autumn walk on the beach of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Wadden Islands on the north coast of the Netherlands. The weather calmed down after a storm.
It's low tide, the bottom of the sea becomes visible. The fierce waves have left their marks, like every intense event in life...

Morning is coming,
all that remains of dreams
are the colors of silence
The first morning light in a deserted heathland that prepares for the winter.

Now all your songs of beauty fail
The forest closes 'round you
The sun goes down behind a veil
'Tis now that you would call me
So rest in peace my nightingale
Beneath your branch of holly
Fare thee well my nightingale
I lived but to be near you
Tho' you are singing somewhere still
I can no longer hear you
From 'Nightingale' - Leonard Cohen (2004)

The Waal river in The Netherlands. A beautiful, broad river, the busiest river in Europe. The Waal river flows into the North Sea.

The whole day they stand in the sun,
on the shore of the lake.
The heat makes languid,
thoughts float slowly over the water.
A warm spring day in the Ooijpolder nature reserve, near the city of Nijmegen. The Ooijpolder is an area consisting of floodplains south of the river Waal, and a polder directly behind the river dike.

A fresh september morning, the haze dissolves and the sun shows itself carefully.
The trees along the river Maas, near the town of Heumen in the Netherlands, seem to wake up with a slight shiver.

A day once dawned and it was beautiful
A day once dawned from the ground
Then the night she fell and the air was beautiful
The night she fell all around
So look, see the days
The endless coloured ways
[Nick Drake - From the morning]
A fresh september morning, the haze dissolves and the sun shows itself carefully.
THE RIVER MAAS, NEAR THE CITY OF HEUMEN, THE NETHERLANDS
Early in the morning, the newly risen sun touches the landscape. The sounds are muted by a slight mist, rising from the cold water of the river.

Stripped of his robe, but stately as ever,
his branches rise high above the river…
Of course, a tree in its full splendor in the summer is incredibly beautiful and impressive. But trees in their winter bareness fascinate me very much. Bald but proud, reaching to the sky...

Dreams flow into the night, oust the darkness
and invite our memories to appear from their shelters.
