Infinite Sea

Standing in the face of infinity
We found what we fell short:
Emptiness and modesty

The sea and the sky are a mirror of each other’s soul. The relationship between sea and sky is resembling an intimate relationship between two people: the occasional heated discussion or emotional conversation, every now and then even a fierce quarrel, at other times a gentle caress or a long intimate moment… Sometimes there seems to be some distance, but usually they are very close together. They are forever connected, they want and can not live without each other.

Every time when I climb the dunes, when I walk the beach and when I see those two in front of me, I feel like a privileged person. Privileged that I can listen to them, that I have the opportunity to see their interaction.

Lonely Tree

I laugh at myself, old man, with no strength left
inclined to calm seas, in love with lonely trees
oh well, I've wandered down the years to now
free in the flow; and floated home the same
a drifting boat.

Inspired by a poem by the Chinese poet Shih Te (… - c. 730)

‘Lonely Tree’ is a fusion and transformation of two photos of the North Sea; one made at the beach, one of a sunset seen from the hamlet where we lived close to the coast of North Jutland, Denmark.

Velvet sea

A morning by the sea, the water is called back by the tide, bringing the beach back to the land. Thousands of waves, as far as the eye can see, weave together like an infinite velvet sheet. The day begins, behind the dunes sounds the soft murmur of a city's awakening. I stay on the beach a while longer....

When you stand on top of the dunes, you can see and feel the power of the wind. But just behind the top, in the protection of a slope in the dunes, it is wonderful to sit and rest while listening to the surf.

An autumn walk on the beach of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Wadden Islands on the north coast of the Netherlands. The weather calmed down after a storm.
It's low tide, the bottom of the sea becomes visible. The fierce waves have left their marks, like every intense event in life...

Restless Winds

Slow Dance

On a not too windy day, waves are very calming to me.
They play a game with the sun and the sky, the endless variety of colors continuously presents a breathtaking spectacle.
The regular irregularity with which they move in a slow dance, elevate in the surf, explode for a short moment and relax in the sand, is hypnotic. If you sit in the sun on the beach and close your eyes, their song, accompanied by the wind, can easily make you fall asleep...

The Silk Sea

A morning by the sea, the water is recalled by the tide and returns the beach to the land. Thousands of waves, as far as the eye can see, weave together like an infinite sheet of silk. The day begins, behind the dunes the soft murmur of the awakening of a city can be heard. I stay on the beach a little longer....

Breathing The Light

A little later in the afternoon the wind gets weaker.
The cloud cover slowly breaks open and gently lets in some light.
The sea calms and breathes the late afternoon sun.

During the trip along the coast there was a hard, stormy wind. Later in the afternoon the wind calmed down, just an hour before sunset the cloud cover disappeared slowly.

Sunlight Serenade

Hundreds of small islands lie off the coast of south-east Sweden.
They usually consist of no more than rocky soil with shrubs and trees, surrounded by a collar of reeds.
On this beautiful day, the sunlight plays a serenade on the reeds, accompanied by the wind.
