Stray Birds
On a never ending quest
Birds fascinate me, capturing their movement is challenging and inspiring.
Gulls and terns on the coast of Denmark are a great source of inspiration, but also the photographing of urban gulls in the city of Nijmegen (The Netherlands) or a group of swans or geese in the sky above nature reserve Agger Tange, north Jutland, results in special fine art photos.
Right To Fly

To grow, to prosper

To raise offspring
To feed you and others
To be fed myself
Who defends our rights?
Does a human being have more right to a clean earth and a safe and healthy life than a bird, a tree, a flower?
Crossing
Crossing the stream
birds cry
a fight for bread
A beautiful sunny winter day. A group of gulls fight each other for a piece of bread. When the seagull with the bread in its beak crosses a wide ditch, the whole group follows; screaming as if panicking to lose sight of the seagull with the bread.
Fleeting Souls
Intense cold silence,
emerged
from the water,
fleeting in the
bright winter light

From the cold of darkness
the soul revives to be
Cherished by the light
Sickness, loss, violence, life-threatening circumstances, dying....
There are many moments in a person's life when she/he is held captive in icy darkness.
Whatever you believe in, ultimately there is the embrace and oneness with the light of your origin.
Wildlife Day
The Belgian writer and poet Kirstin Vanlierde, wrote a touching poem on the occasion of World Animal Day.
Below 2 stanzas from her poem, translated from Dutch. Her words inspired me to make this artwork.
[....] How much cool solitude
can the heron bear, before the fish consist only
from mercury? How laboriously do the dwindling strands of migratory birds find
in this battered landscape find their way back to the pole?
At least look at the buffalo and the rhinos
at the dead-eyed elephants
on trophy photos where smiling men
as bosses
[....]
The Dance Of The Barnacle Geese
On a beautiful autumn morning, a group of barnacle geese leave its sleeping place in the Agger Tange, a swamp area in nature reserve National Park Thy.
The geese fly over a lake in the direction of the arable land to forage. In their graceful flight they are performing a ballet.

Fragile morning -

It is very quiet on a cold morning. The marshes are slowly becoming visible in the rising fog. Four geese take off to look for food in the fields.

Jostling To Get The Best Spot
Four geese are about to land on the water of a lake.
Three of them seem to push each other away to claim the best spot...
...on a lake that is big enough to give tens of thousands of geese a place to sleep.

Elusive Thoughts

Have you ever experienced that? Messy shreds of thoughts in which you can not find a beginning or an end, and which go as quickly as they come? It happens to me sometimes when I am too busy in my head. When you let go, it is like white shadows of that thoughts remain visible for a brief moment.

Greed makes one blind, blind to one's surroundings, blind to the dangers, blind to the needs of others. Only a few escape it...

Late in the afternoon on a clear winter day, two barnacle geese fly towards the low sun. The sunlight seems to dissolve them in the cold winter air.

An evening stroll on the beach. It always impresses me: a strong, stormy wind that blows over the sea.
Suddenly I see a seagull, it seems to emerge from the surf.

Late in the afternoon on a cloudy winter day, a seagull flies towards the horizon. The twilight seems to dissolve it in the cold winter air.

A young tern flies low above the sea; back and forth, wandering, turning fast turns....
Suddenly it dives to the surface of the water, then flies on again without visible loot.

Early in the morning on a winter day, it still quite dark because of a thick cloud cover.
Two geese paddle quietly through the water, the twilight makes it hard to distinguish them from the reeds along the shore.
