Empty words wander over the earth
Lost in broken promises and

brutal lies, desperate
cries and sad songs
echo between dying trees
,
drown in cruel, poisoned waves

300 billion dollars plus a vague promise to study whether that can become more, is what the rich countries agreed to “give” to developing countries to combat the disastrous effects of the overconsumption of those same rich nations.

“ Rich countries spent 150 years appropriating the world’s atmospheric space, 33 years loitering on climate action, and three years negotiating [a financial settlement] without putting numbers on the table. Now, with the help of an incompetent Cop presidency and using the forthcoming Trump administration as a threat, they force developing countries to accept a deal that not only doesn’t represent any actual new money but also may increase their debt. ”

Meagre

With that meagre amount, what can the developing countries do to protect their population from climate disasters, sea level rise, poisoned and polluted oceans, drought, floods, soil depletion.... And then also use that money to try to develop their country sustainably and resilient ?

The developing countries are asking for 1.3 trillion, NGOs have calculated that 5 to 7 trillion per year is needed….
What are the rich countries actually thinking when they propose this ? Is that how little a human life is worth, a human life seriously endangered by our misbehavior, greed and addiction to luxury?

This reminds me of paying for looted riches with beads and mirrors....

Worthless

Aside from this tip, the rest of the agreement is not even worth printing:

” There are no further steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There is no direct reference to 'moving away from' fossil fuels in the text, unlike last year. Nor were any new actions or targets agreed upon. Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia, are said to have vehemently opposed further steps. ”

'Sad Songs'is a new artwork in my collection 'Secret Places'. It is inspired by the recent fruitless attempts by world leaders to arrive at decisive measures, humane financial compensation and quick actions to combat the earth crisis.

Sad Songs - 300 billion dollars the rich countries want to “give” to developing countries to combat the disastrous effects of the overconsumption of those same rich people.
300 billion a year for, say, 5 billion people. That's $60 a year per person.
The rich countries think they can get away with it at the rates per person from the days of the slave trade....
Sad Songs

ALL WE NEED IS LESS CONSUMING

Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke. Thus to think about your actions to support the wellbeing of the earth and everything that lives on it. And on what humanity loses when many of us continue on the destructive path of ever more greed and consuming. And please, reflect on how you can survive in this rapidly changing world…
