The light slowly fades away, not a sound to be heard The scent of the night arrives
A special calm comes over the evening when the sun begins to disappear behind the horizon and the light of the day fades away. Nature awaits the night. I love that quiet moment of the day and the scent that announces the coming of night.
'Scent Of The Night' is a photo in my collections 'Flat Lands' and 'Evening Falls'. I made it in a small nature reserve near the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we lose when we continue on the road of 'never enough'.
All day in the spring rain Wandering between the trees Birds sing a green song
Do you know the sound of green? Listen to the birds in the trees after the rain. Do you know the scent of green? Take a stroll through a wet spring forest.
Two weeks ago we spent a few days on the beautiful island of Langeland. On a rainy day we went to the northern half of the island. Right after a huge downpour, we walked into a dense forest that looked so fairytale-like, sensual and intensely green, it didn't seem real. Everything was green, the color, the scent, the sounds….
'Green Song' is a new artwork in my collection 'Secret Places'. I made this photo in the beautiful old forest near the town of Tranekær on the island of Langeland, Denmark.

"Here I Am" is a darker work to show the bitter days, the tiring days where the light is the stronger element that conveys "she's not done yet, she's still putting herself through it."
A fellow artist told me about her way of working in an introductory conversation via the LinkedIn messenger. I wrote "if you have any ideas for collaboration sometime, let's hear it". And I totally meant that, because I love working with other artists.
That she would answer within two seconds "Oh, I already do !", I did not quite expect...
Tress.c (Visual Narrative Art) is a special artist. Using her own photography with edits in multiple layers, she creates artworks that tell a story. A visual story about the life of her daughter, who lives with "invisible" disabilities in the form of complex neurological disorders.
And now, as a beginning of our collaboration, she has created two artworks, using one of my photographs. The result is a powerful diptych representing the healing power of nature for her daughter. The power that calms her body, mind and spirit. Tress.c has chosen to create this diptych to show her daughter's innocence, her strength and that inner battle that shines brightly in her eyes. To show how she is fighting for her own life.
Here is the first artwork: Crying Pines. "Crying Pines", is full of light and calm, to show the victories, the peace in her daughter's heart and where she is facing the viewers, challenging them to look at her as a whole, not as a handicap.
Trees tangled together in green A lonely road, deep into the woods Shelter for the cold May rain
A dark, chilly and rainy day in May. At some point the rain comes pouring down. But luckily, a beautiful lane with a tightly tangled canopy of leaves provides shelter.
'Tangled Trees' is a new artwork in my collection 'The Narrow Path'. I made this photo in the beautiful old forest near the town of Tranekær on the island of Langeland, Denmark.

The sound of a light breeze Cherry blossom petals dazzling into the light
Spring. A gentle breeze takes the petals of fading cherry blossoms into the light.
And now the cherry tree is also in bloom. A dozen bees and bumblebees are busy collecting pollen. There are not many bees, but they are here when the fruit trees bloom !

Many, many times I have tried to make a photo in my style with my 'old' iPhone 4s. Especially early in the morning, when I walk the dog. Many hundreds of photos, and never there was one to my liking. Until, one beautiful morning, my movement of the phone was apparently quick and sure enough to successfully capture this flaming sunrise on dragon wings.
On Dragon Wings
'On Dragon Wings' is a new artwork in my collection 'Wavy Fields'. I made it early in the morning while walking through the fields near my house.

You, harvester, who work so peacefully Oh you, who harvest the wheat so peacefully Harvest the sorrows from my soul Harvest them and carry them away with you
I love Fado music and, more in general, Portuguese folk music.
One of the most beautiful Portuguese songs for me is Meu Alentejo sung by Dulce Pontes (see the link at the bottom of this post). But even without knowing a translation of the lyrics (and I don't speak a word of Portuguese), this song really touched me the first time I heard it. And it still does...
Dulce is a singer who sings evocatively. Her voice is full of emotion. After I read the translation of the lyrics, I immediately saw a field before me with waving grain, ready to be harvested. So I chose this artwork to go with the song by Dulce Pontes. A tribute to her, and to the region Alentejo she sings about.
The original lyrics and translation are also below the image.
Carry Away My Sorrows
'Carry Away My Sorrows' is a new artwork in my collection 'Wavy Fields'. I made it in the fields near the village Helligsø, North Jutland, Denmark.
Eu não sei que tenho em Évora Que de Évora me estou lembrando. Quando chego ao rio Tejo As ondas me vão levando...
Abalei do Alentejo, Olhei para trás chorando. Alentejo da minh'alma Tão longe me vais ficando!
Ceifeira que andas à calma Ai, e à calma ceifando o trigo Ceifa as penas da minh'alma Ceifa-as leva-as contigo
Abalei do Alentejo, Olhei para trás chorando. Alentejo da minh'alma Tão longe me vais ficando!
English translation:
My Alentejo
I don't know what I left in Évora That makes me remember Évora When I reach the Tagus river Its waves carry my soul away.
I suddenly left the Alentejo And looked back, crying Oh, Alentejo of my soul You're so very far away from me!
You, harvester, who work so peacefully Oh you, who harvest the wheat so peacefully Harvest the sorrows from my soul Harvest them and carry them away with you
I suddenly left the Alentejo And looked back, crying Oh, Alentejo of my soul You're so very far away from me!

A pine fragrance, damp ground awakens The first light softly caresses the moss A spring morning blends with dark scents of the night
It's early in the morning. The first sunlight touches the moss between the trees. And as if the forest had been waiting for it, immediately the most wonderful scents rise up and mingle with the nightly smell of damp leaves and wood.
'Scent of Early Morning' is a new artwork in my collection 'Secret Places‘. I made this photo in the beautiful old forest ‘Dover plantage’ near the city of Hurup Thy, North Jutland, Denmark.
