A lonely cold morning Footsteps muffled Endless carpet of stillness
Fresh snow, as far as the eye can see. The forest looks spacious, light, and larger than usual. It is quiet, and the world feels deserted. Only the muffled crunch of my footsteps in the fresh snow.
After two years without 'real' snow, last week we had a few centimeters of snow. A wonderful moment to enjoy the silence of a white forest.
I made this photo in the beautiful forest Dover Plantation, near the town of Hurup Thy in Denmark.
Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we lose when we continue on the road of 'never enough'.
Embrace the joy of daylight Find comfort in the bright light of a fresh breeze and the winter sun
Our day with no screens, no internet and (almost) no electricity was a breath of fresh air.
Literally, because we took a long walk. Figuratively, because we reflected and talked about our online time and use of electrical devices. Even in our minimalistic household, this generated several immediately implementable ideas, providing peace of mind, time for reflection, time to do different things for a change, and saving on our CO2 emissions.
So we will continue to do this. One day i-off and e-off every week. We can heartily recommend it, if only to become aware of your i-use and e-use and the alternatives that are available.

Embrace the silence of darkness Find comfort in the scant light of a candle and the winter sun
Anuscka and I decided to spend a day "in darkness" every week. Figuratively speaking that is, it will be a day with minimal use of electricity and no use of the internet, and screens in general.
Why? Because we are curious to see how we like it. Because we want to spend less time behind screens. Because we would like to have a recurrent period of silence and reflection. Because using very little electricity for a day contributes significantly to reducing our CO2 footprint...

Falling snow muffles the moans of breaking waves. A white silence rises from the morning twilight. The snow-covered beach welcomes the day.
A walk on a virgin white beach on the first day this winter that snow has fallen. It's cold, quiet and breathtakingly beautiful… What a fantastic way to start a new day !

First snowflakes falling The cold breeze is scattering frozen scent of pines
After two years without 'real' snow, some snow fell in northwest Jutland earlier this week. Above that, it was cold enough for a few days to enjoy the white landscape. A wonderful moment for a walk in a forest. The delicate scent of damp pine trees is dispersed through the forest by an icy breeze.

Hesitant rain clouds Soaked fields drying in the wind Young wheat rises
After a week with only rainy days, the sun shines for a few minutes just before it sets. A strong cold breeze dries the fields with young winter wheat.
Autumn Rains
'Autumn Rains' is a new photo in my collection 'Wavy Fields'. I made this photo during a bike ride along the fields near the hamlet Ørum, North Jutland, Denmark.

A duende is a fairy- or goblin-like mythological creature from Spanish, Portuguese and South American folklore. Duendes also have some traits similar to goblins and kobolds.
The Duendes are forest spirits. They help people who get lost in the forest, so that they will find their way home. In time, the Duende is also the spirit of evocation. The physical and emotional response, elicited by art. So having the Duende is equivalent to that thrill that makes you smile or cry in front of a particularly expressive artistic performance.
I made 'Duende' with an old analog camera. It was the first impressionistic forestscape photo with that camera. A sunny morning on a path in a forest, near the city of Nijmegen in The Netherlands. The sunlight seems to dance across the path. It moves quickly from tree to tree. As a spirit that keeps an eye on me to see if I'm doing okay.
Limited Edition prints in 6 sizes are available in my collection in the online art gallery MJRGallery.com

It is my conviction that after our death our spirit, our soul, travels to its origin somewhere in the universe. Once arrived, our energy is reunited with the energy from which everything around us once originated.

Nebulae (4)
As we know from the beautiful photographs taken by the Hubble telescope, the energy visible to us in the universe consists of light from countless stars. This light illuminates enormous gas nebulae in many fascinating colors. This is how I like to see myself. As a very small colored particle of dust. After leaving this physical existence, this particle returns to such an infinitely large, multicolored cloud of gas and dust.
The way there is an enchanting journey through space. Alternating between silent darkness and clouds full of light, color and tranquilizing sounds. After that long, fascinating journey, we arrive at our designated spot in that infinite space.
Nebulae (1)
In the project Nebulae I wanted to visualize that journey. That is how a series of abstract photographic artworks came into being. Made by transforming nine abstract realistic photographs of sunsets over the North Sea along the coast of the Thy region, North Jutland, Denmark.
The series ‘Nebulae’ will have its own, new collection on Saatchi Art. Limited and open edition prints are available there, or contact me for a quote.
As soon as one of the artworks has been added to my Saatchi Art portfolio, you will be able to visit the page of that artwork by clicking on the image.
