Have you ever tried to follow the pieces of an unfinished dream as it drifts away when you wake up ?
Soft waving reeds in a chilly breeze. The ripples on the icy water make it hard to see anything below the surface. An ideal hiding place for dreams…
The sun has set, the water of the fjord rapidly takes on the cold color of the night. Thin cloud veils seem to swallow up the colors of the sunset, until it's dark.
An unexpected snowstorm blinds us
Even as we squint into the sunlight
Blinded, shivering, caught in the brightness
Turning away from its fierce glare
The burning, live-giving light
The soft, chilling snow
Flirting, sparkling, fluttering
...
After many days of rain, the late afternoon sun shines almost horizontally through the damp forest. It is quiet, except for a soft rustling, a song of the last leaves of the trees…
On a walk on the shore along the fjord where we used to live, the sun emerges from behind the clouds just before it sets. An enchanting display of winter colors, slowly drowning in the calm waters of the fjord.
An artwork that I made on the occasion of the exhibition 'El Duende' in 2017. I made two series of photos in the mountains near Bellano, Italy. When making those series, the theme of the exhibition inspired me. I went looking for the spirit of mountains and valleys.
It's early in the morning. The first sunlight touches the moss between the trees. And as if the forest had been waiting for it, immediately the most wonderful scents rise up and mingle with the nightly smell of thawing leaves and wood.
Spring. A gentle breeze takes the petals of fading cherry blossoms into the light. Although still far away, or perhaps just because, a new version of this artwork.
Yesterday the first version of this artwork, it went wrong again with the ability to comment, so grab your chance at this new, digitally transformed version 😉
"You white men are lost. You don't understand the land. Too many silly questions.
Your presence on this earth will come to an end.
It's low tide, the bottom of the fjord becomes visible. The waves have left their marks, like every intense event in life...
A special calm comes over the evening when the sun begins to disappear behind the horizon and the light of the day fades away. Nature awaits the night.
I love that quiet moment of the day and the scents that announces the coming of night.
A wonderful sunset briefly colors the sky intens red in many shades. Soon after, it is dark. The day is over. A beautiful ode to autumn…
A warm day early in the summer, it is windless. The dense foliage filters the sunlight. Birds sing, but are invisible in the golden-green light.
Some people dream in color, other's in black and white. Many people are not sure, or hardly remember their dreams. I am quite sure I sometimes dream in surrealistic color palettes and atmospheres. But as far as I remember, my dreams are always multicolored...
A tender kiss
our dreams
entwined
What is an earthly mushroom on the scale of a galaxy? Less than a speck of dust on your windowsill... Not even the size of an atom in the infinite expanse of the oceans.
Yet they can be merged...
What is an earthly mushroom on the scale of a galaxy? Less than a speck of dust on your windowsill... Not even the size of an atom in the infinite expanse of the oceans.
Yet they can be merged...
The first rays of the sun reflect in the vapors rising from the valley after a heavy rain shower.
The morning breeze touches it, like the ripples of a silk scarf draped over the mountain tops…
Do you know those moments? A setting sun, just above the trees, in a completely clear sky. In the foreground a lake that reflects all the light... A lot of light...
When are we most fascinated by a sunset? For many people, it is when the sky is colored in saturated, vibrant colors….
Realizing this, I set to work on another sunset photograph….
When are we most fascinated by a sunset? For many people, it is when the sky is colored in a beautiful palet of saturated, vibrant colors….
Autumn is generally a gray, rainy season in the northern part of Jutland. More gray than winter, at least if there is a real winter. But for that very reason, the overcast skies and brisk winds that can suddenly give the sun plenty of room, it is also the season of beautiful, intense sunsets...
As Clouds Before the Wind
... When she wakes
she lifts the shade, impatient for a glimpse
of flight: a sparrow, a swallowtail—
something with wings she can memorize.
On a not too windy day, waves are very calming to me.
They play a game with the sun and the sky, reflecting and chasing each other's colors that in an endless variety continuously present a breathtaking spectacle.
Early on an autumn morning, the just-risen sun caresses the landscape. The sounds are muffled by a light haze rising from the cold waters of the river. The first rays of the sun cause a shiver, both from the awareness of the night's chill and the longing for the sun's warmth....
A sunny autumn day
The garden breathes colors
Leaves whispering
After a beautiful late summer week, it has now become autumn. The temperature has dropped considerably, compared to that warm week. Rain showers are frequent, although not very heavy.
Many leaves have been blown off by a summer storm, we are collecting those fallen leaves almost daily...
One of the most extraordinary colored sunsets I have ever seen. The color palette was so special…. And slowly the colors blended more and more, until it was too dark to distinguish any colors at all....
In the open window the wind ripples the curtains
the rising moon brushes the wall
Just for a brief moment
tree leaves float through my room
Light makes magic. Whether it is sunlight, the light of a candle or the light of the moon...
I heard the wind and smelled the
scents of a cold winter evening
...
A beautiful sunny winter day on a path near a canal near the town of Heumen, in the vicinity of the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
Late in the afternoon on a clear winter day, two barnacle geese fly towards the low sun. The sunlight seems to dissolve them in the cold winter air.
Duendes crossing my path on a sunny morning...
In some Latin American cultures, the Duendes are believed to be forest spirits, helpers of people who get lost in the forest so they could find their way home.
A woman bicyclist rides from under a bridge into the light. From darkness to light, an escape from the shadows.
What color is the sea? Blue, gray, brown?
None of those. The sea has the color of the sky, of the sun, of the clouds. The oceans are the soul of the earth and reflect the mood of everything that uses them as a mirror.
Out for a walk early in the morning on a beautiful sunny winter day, I see a group of gulls fight each other for a piece of bread....
On a sunny day during a walk through the beautiful undulating fields at the south side of Nissum Bredning, a part of the Limfjord in northwest Jutland, Denmark.
Sunset above the Limfjord. Evening falls, summer clouds take possession of the sky at the end of a warm August day.
I made this work standing on the shore of Krik Vig, a bay in the Limfjord, Thy region, North Jutland, Denmark.
In the shade of a large oak tree
I dozed in the noonday veil
In a dream I was a flower
my body breathing the sunlight,
trembling in a summer breeze
No entanglements of outer things,
without feelings of emptiness
Serene in the oneness of nature,
without seducing thoughts
Just inner silence
I heard the wind and smelled the
scents of a cold winter morning
I dreamed of a path just for me,
...
A beautiful sunny winter day on a path near a canal near the town of Heumen, in the vicinity of the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
A deserted beach, a deserted sea. It is low tide, the waves approach the coast in a regular and calm rhythm. The murmur of the waves that die on the sand, deepens the silence.
A heavy rain storm just passed the Flade Sø, a lake directly behind the dunes of the North Sea.
Then the beautiful warm light of the almost setting sun, touches the wet grass and reeds around the lake...
Summers on the west coast of Denmark are not summers of long days with bright blue skies. The westerly winds bring clouds almost daily...

Tiny wild flowers, two of them already fading, one waiting to explode in beautiful colors...
It is early in the morning. The cold haze of the night rises from the damp grassland. A light breeze brushes the grasses. Their soft rustle welcomes the sun. The quiet beginning of a new day in this beautiful nature reserve.
Earlier this week, I opened an account on Fine Art America. The main focus will be on offering unsigned (open edition) prints for wall art and decoration.
The first 40 works have been uploaded, with many more to follow. Please take a look and follow me there to see the regular additions.
‘Origin’ is an experimental photograph, made with a digital camera without using a lens.
It is the first result of a search for light in its purest form. And at the same time, the project is a representation of the beginning and end of life, followed by the last breath.
Sometimes a balmy summer evening by the sea can be so incredibly quiet that colors can be heard. Do you also hear the bronze gong and copper bell, or even the Tibetan singing bowl ?
By mid-afternoon at the beginning of spring, the sun is already quite low in the sky. The bright light reflects in the calm water and in the pools of shallow water created during low tide. Light, sand and water dissolve into each other.
A sunlit open space in the forest, full of young waving birch trees eager to drink the sunlight, surrounded by a beautifully decorated wall of pines and somewhat older birches that move in the wind like in a slow dance...
Awakening Fields - Early morning. Relatively warm southern winds blow across the fields. Colors emerge, the land seems to awaken from its deep sleep.
An Island - A small island of reed and grass in a wintery cold Baltic Sea, atb the south west coast of Sweden. The sun shines between the clouds and hits the island, lighting it up in a special way.
A bright white light? Eternal darkness?
It is my conviction that after our death our spirit, our soul, or call it our energy, travels to its origin somewhere in the universe. Once arrived, our energy is reunited with the energy from which everything around us once originated.
Endless Road - A dark, gray and rainy day in June. It is beginning to get dark and the wind is finally abating. A curtain of rain obscures the view. But I know this road, I know we're almost home.

Silent forest
A tree hums
Dark sound
Forests often have an enchanting atmosphere. The murmur of leaves enhances the silence, the dim light hides a lot of details... At the same time, scarce light can give objects a different, mysterious form. And a creaking branch will make you look around to discover...

In the rhythm of our wings...
Soulmates... Fellow travellers on our journey of life, helping to grow beyond the horizons of our individual selves.
It is nice to have a soulmate, a privilege. But not a given, nor conditional for a happy life.

Do you know the sound of green? No? Then listen to the birds in the trees after the rain.
And do you know the scent of green? Take a stroll through a wet spring forest, and you will never forget this wonderful scent.
Some time ago we spent a few days on the beautiful island of Langeland.
On a rainy day we went to the northern half of the island...
what do you encounter when you look beyond the hollow words and empty promises ?
Your Self.
Your own responsibility.
The growing up of your children and grandchildren, or those of family and friends. The offspring of one society.
Why don't we take that responsibility ?
'Beyond The Void' is the second artwork of a triptych about the endless series of hollow words and empty promises made by politicians, leaders and big corporations regarding…. Well, regarding everything that harms the earth, harms nature, harms the poor, harms the future generations….
Follow me on the journey through the void. More thoughts on this subject in the third post tomorrow...

Fleeing winds
lash the beach,
trying to hide
Sometimes you feel a strong wind so gusting on your body that it seems like the wind itself is fleeing from something and trying to push you aside because you are in her way...
Day’s end,
painted in the sky
on the canvas of the night
As the sun approaches the horizon, the overcast sky turns darker and darker. A beautiful canvas for the last rays of the sun to paint an exuberant farewell to the day...
And Then The Sun Stood Still - Summer.... - I love this time of the year, in which the whole cosmos seems to come to a standstill for a moment...
When I see
the colors of the sunset
the sparkles on the water
waves finding rest on the shore...
I no longer wish. I am
A sunny day at the beach of the North Sea, just north of the town of Agger in Denmark.
Winter retreats
dressed in bright white and silver
arranging the fresh green
A blue sky and the fading shades of white and silver of the trees, welcome the beautiful green of the arriving spring !
Tangled Trees
Trees tangled
together in green
A lonely road,
deep
into the woods
Shelter for the cold
May rain
A dark, chilly and rainy day in May. At some point the rain comes pouring down. But luckily, a beautiful lane with a tightly tangled canopy of leaves provides shelter.
I love those fresh, quiet spring days, where the sea still reflects the colors of winter, and the sun colors the sky in the shades of summer....
Do you dream in color? Or in black and white? Or both, or do you not know? Are all people dreaming in different color palettes, or does everyone have her/his own palette?
Some people are always dreaming in color, other's in shades of gray, or both in an irregular variety. Many people are not sure, or hardly remember it.
A search for my color palette, an experiment.
Late in the evening after a sunny day. The sun is about to set, the world is waiting for the night to come. Dark rain clouds cover the sky over the lake, a rain shower passes by.
On the threshold of spring, I walk through the woods early on a cold and misty morning. Shreds of mist rise from the ground, the day is beginning.
A forest in the mist is fascinating and mysterious
At the end of a gray spring day, a light breeze rises and the mist that has lain like a blanket over the land and sea all day disappears.

The above stanza is from Laura Ann Reed's poem "As Clouds Before the Wind", and inspired me to make this artwork.
Laura Ann is a poet from the US, her work particularly appeals to me. Moreover, she is a very inspiring woman; I am fortunate to have a regular email contact with her.
Read more about Laura Ann and enjoy some of her poems via this link to her website. The entire poem is below the image of the artwork.
'A Glimpse Of Flight' is an artwork in my collections 'Secret Places'.

Laura Ann's poem:
As Clouds Before the Wind
There are borders toward which
she moves, although she can’t say
what galaxies they lie between.
Daily, she prepares for a parting
in the trees, waits for the window
hinge to break, the pane to crack
and fall. She’s ready for the wind
to fill her room. She has one foot
planted on another planet,
and in her sleep she yields naked
to the Eros of its magnetic field—
its ethereal embrace. When she wakes
she lifts the shade, impatient for a glimpse
of flight: a sparrow, a swallowtail—
something with wings she can memorize.
This is a digital artwork, printed with high-quality ink on museum-quality cotton paper (Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308gsm). The work comes in a limited edition of 10, signed and with a certificate of authenticity.
For these artworks, I start with one or more photographs made by myself. I edit it in multiple process runs and in several layers by color manipulation and adding and editing multiple digital photographic effects. I do that until a surrealistic atmosphere is created that touches me and tells the story I want to tell.
The photograph(s) I begin with has/have an impressionistic, surrealistic or abstract realist style, which is the basis for all my work.

ALL WE NEED IS LESS CONSUMING
Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on your actions to support the wellbeing of the earth and everything that lives on it, on what humanity loses when many of us continue on the destructive path of ever more greed and consuming, on how you can survive in this rapidly changing world…

Blooming Forest
Bright sunlight dances
Coral reefs breathe new colors
Old forests in bloom
Would coral reefs stand a chance in the future, protected by drowned temperate rain forests in warmed waters in now too cold areas?
The Other World
You ask me why I live
alone in the mangrove forest,
at the edge of the infinite sea.
I smile, I am silent
until even my soul grows quiet:
it lives in the other world,
one that no one owns.
The trees bloom.
The waves keep coming.
Symbiosis
Drowned forests
Nurturing seaweed
Symbiosis
Kelp forests are dense areas of kelp growth that occur near coastal waters. Kelps are ‘primary producers’ that modify the environment to create suitable habitat for a great diversity of species. Therefore they are known as foundational species.

Noon.
No one around.
I walk this path,
deep
into spring.
An unending,
green dream.
A sunny, warm spring day. It is quiet in the forest, not a breath of wind, no one to be seen. As I walk deeper into the forest, the young greenery closes me off more and more from the busy world. I walk on slowly, as if in a dream....

Light. Hidden
behind a veil of silence
of the fading darkness
Celebrate a new day
Every day
Time is an abstract concept, but at the same time compellingly concrete. It's a human-designed scheme, into which we think all our doing (and what we don't do) should fit. And which must be accounted for regularly, with great accuracy. Perhaps time even is the only abstract concept of which most people feel they are constantly short.
Anuscka and I are in the fortunate position of feeling that we have more than enough time. And in doing so, we have become increasingly detached from the contrived scheme.
For us, a year is a bit much to comprehend and embrace. We try to focus our lives on the rhythm of the sunlight.
We wish you many beautiful new days. And we hope you will celebrate them, together with the people you love, in good health and with a positive spirit.

My wife Anuscka and I do not celebrate Christmas.
So my wish for all of you is somewhat different from the traditional Christmas greeting:
I wish you silent days, with a light in your heart for the earth, for nature and for all the needy people.
Whatever you celebrate today, make it a beautiful, colorful day, and take a moment to think and care about all that is vulnerable and needy on this earth.

I have enjoyed converting a small selection of my forest photographs into intensely dark black and white artworks. They were of course meant to express my concern about the climate and the lack of climate action.
But they have also become a new way for me to look at my earlier work. After I finished the black and white works, I felt a great need to do something with colors. Much bolder colors than what you generally see in my work, sunsets excepted.
I asked myself: how do we prevent the forests from becoming as dark and gloomy as in the black-and-white photos. How do we bring back color where it is needed, and keep the colors that are still present from fading?
And then, Black Friday came into sight, so I read in various newsletters and posts on LinkedIn... The desire to make a statement against it was strong.
And so the series "Colorful Days" was born.

It is an indictment of the greed for buying, the unbridled consumption that many people, living in so-called "developed countries," practice on a daily basis.
The works ask you and everybody who sees them the question, "What have you done to preserve my color, to restore colors where they are fading, to bring more color into the gray world that people create around them and where there is no place for nature anymore."
(Text continues below the image)
They call on you to boycott the increasing number of "black days" like Black Friday. Days that further fuel humanity's consumerism. They are telling you that living with nature, preserving and restoring nature, is only possible if Western man consumes significantly less. And what we consume, must be produced colorfully, that is, in harmony with nature.

The series 'Colorful Days' is part of my collection'Secret Places'.

Endless Road - A dark gray day. It is beginning to get dark and the wind is finally abating. A curtain of rain obscures the view. But I know this road, I know we're almost home.

The light slowly fades away,
not a sound to be heard
The scent of the night arrives
A special calm comes over the evening when the sun begins to disappear behind the horizon and the light of the day fades away. Nature awaits the night.
I love that quiet moment of the day and the scent that announces the coming of night.
'Scent Of The Night' is a photo in my collections 'Flat Lands' and 'Evening Falls'.
I made it in a small nature reserve near the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

reveal what was hidden
introspection
A winter walk on the bank of the Limfjord, Denmark.
It's low tide, the bottom of the fjord becomes visible. The waves have left their marks, like every intense event in life...

A week ago I posted about "Fotopentrito" and "Fotopentriti". Two words the American panter Karina Mosser and I coined to describe our new collaboration in painting on a photograph.
For this post, I had quickly put together a triptych. It consisted of a painting by Karina, a photo of myself and a digital fusion between the two.
The response on that triptych was so positive that I sat down to make it a real set of 3 artworks.
So here is the result, available as a triptych in any size. Besides that, the artworks are also for sale as three separate works, of course also in any size you desire.
And of course available as limited edition artworks or as open edition prints.
On the left a painting by Karina, on the right a photo by me, in the middle a digital blend of the two.

In my collaboration with Karina Mosser, we started a new project: painting on a photograph.
This isn't a unique way of creating art, it has been done before.
But with the fluid fusion of our styles and materials, we are sure that a series of unique works of art will emerge.
We set out to find a word that would describe this medium well.
There is no existing word for painting on a photograph. So we composed two new words. We derived these from the words for 'painting' and 'photo' in the Esperanto language.
Thus arose Fotopentrito to denote the medium and a work of art painted on a photograph, and the word Fotopentriti to describe several works of art made in this way.
We will keep you update on our websites and on social media !
Below the first two of my artworks from the collection Infinite Sea to which Karina will add her unique style.

The sun passes through a crystal sphere
A rainbow escapes into darkness
In front of a small window in the west facade of our house, hangs a beautifully cut crystal ball of about 5 centimeters (2 inches) in diameter.
And every sunny evening when the sun is low above the horizon and its rays pierce the sphere, a fascinating spectacle unfolds in our room.

Here I Am is the second artwork in the collaboration with Tress.c
This is what she says about it:
"It is a darker work to show the bitter days, the tiring days where the light is the stronger element that conveys "she's not done yet, she's still putting herself through it."
See the previous news post for the first artwork.

A fellow artist told me about her way of working in an introductory conversation via the LinkedIn messenger. I wrote "if you have any ideas for collaboration sometime, let's hear it". And I totally meant that, because I love working with other artists.
That she would answer within two seconds "Oh, I already do !", I did not quite expect...
Tress.c (Visual Narrative Art) is a special artist. Using her own photography with edits in multiple layers, she creates artworks that tell a story. A visual story about the life of her daughter, who lives with "invisible" disabilities in the form of complex neurological disorders.
And now, as a beginning of our collaboration, she has created two artworks, using one of my photographs. The result is a powerful diptych representing the healing power of nature for her daughter. The power that calms her body, mind and spirit.
Tress.c has chosen to create this diptych to show her daughter's innocence, her strength and that inner battle that shines brightly in her eyes. To show how she is fighting for her own life.
Here is the first artwork: Crying Pines. "Crying Pines", is full of light and calm, to show the victories, the peace in her daughter's heart and where she is facing the viewers, challenging them to look at her as a whole, not as a disability.

Tangled Trees
Trees tangled
together in green
A lonely road,
deep
into the woods
Shelter for the cold
May rain
A dark, chilly and rainy day in May. At some point the rain comes pouring down. But luckily, a beautiful lane with a tightly tangled canopy of leaves provides shelter.

The sound of a light breeze
Cherry blossom petals
dazzling into the light
Spring. A gentle breeze takes the petals of fading cherry blossoms into the light.
And now the cherry tree is also in bloom. A dozen bees and bumblebees are busy collecting pollen. There are not many bees, but they are here when the fruit trees bloom !

Many, many times I have tried to make a photo in my style with my 'old' iPhone 4s. Especially early in the morning, when I walk the dog. Many hundreds of photos, and never there was one to my liking. Until, one beautiful morning, my movement of the phone was apparently quick and sure enough to successfully capture this flaming sunrise on dragon wings.
'On Dragon Wings' is a new artwork in my collection 'Wavy Fields'. I made it early in the morning while walking through the fields near my house.
